June 22nd, 2001-- SFC 2nd Round Report:

Ballymun Kickhams 4-12, Erins Hope 0-3. A bit of a mismatch with Ballymun strolling home easy winners, Ballymun dominated from start to finish with Ian Robertson and Dave Martin dominating midfield and the superb forward play of Niall ODonoghue wreaking havoc on the minnow team. A nasty injury to Kevin Brady with minutes left in the first half was the only thing that seemed to disrupt the flow of Ballymun's play, and with the presence of Paddy Christie at full forward, Ballymun soon regained their stride. Goals came from Paddy Christie, Stephen Condon and O'Donoghue all at the times that were required to drive this victory home. Ballymun and their opponents will have learned little from this encounter. Roll on round three!

June 24th, 2001-- JFC 2nd Round Report:

Ballymun Kickhams;0-15, St.Brigids;2-7. The game ebbed and flowed but Ballymun were always in front. Ballymun contrived to create a spectacle for the gallery of supporters who attended on this warm summers day. Every time they looked like pulling out of reach of their rivals, Ballymun let them in for a goal. A determined performance all around with Mick Carroll and Shane O'Brien contenders for man of the match. The last kick of the game produced a heart stopping moment when St .Brigids struck the crossbar and the upright, had it gone in an injustice would have existed, Ballymun deserve this victory and rightly claim their place in the quarter final stages.

June 10th, 2001-- JFC 1st Round Report:

Ballymun Kickhams 2-13, Na Fianna 2-8. A game that provided excitement from start to finish especially towards the end where Na Fianna were up by a point with 15 mins to go. The game went from level several times to Na Fianna being up by a point and it looked as though Kickhams would rue the chances they missed throughout the game. However the fitness told with 10 mins to go as Ballymun strode ahead, with a fisted goal from Trevor Bolger and points from Eoin Richardson, Shane O'Brien and tremendous workrate all around. The midfield were always up against it with the height advantage always favouring Na Fianna but Kevin Daly and Paul Ryan were superb in their tackling and didn't allow them to play football. Man of the match though, has to go to Shane Barry at corner back who displayed the heart of a thousand lions with a tremendous battling display that lifted the whole team. Captain Dermot Mc Mahon said afterward that it was the hardest game he has played in in many a year. The temperature was scorching and the referee was seen as biased by neutrals towards Na Fianna. Celebrations are sure to go on into the early hours, the lads deserve to enjoy what was a hard earned victory in this contest with their local rivals in what was in fact a clean game of tough football.

MATCH REPORTS:

June 9th, 2001-- U12 Football League Report:

Ballymun 4-10, Clontarf 3-6. This league encounter was played in near perfect conditions in Collinstown lane on Saturday at 11am. Ballymun dominated the game from start to the last 10 minutes where the many substitutions formed a little unrest in the flow of the game, however the game was always out of reach of the visitors. A superb performance at full forward from Ian Fay and classy displays by Carl OReilly, Dean Rock, Eoin OLiathain and Brian Stokes to name a few, always had Ballymun in command. Ian Fay score 3-1 from play and Ted Furman chipped in with the other goal to cap off a fine display at centre forward. Afterwards the team were presented with the cup and their medals for last years league victory, and looked a very professional outfit in their new tracksuits and polo shirts. Heres hoping the winning ways continue.

May 4th, 2001-- SFC 1st Round Replay:

Ballymun Kickhams 1-13, AnGarda 1-8. A much improved performance by the winners this time round. A good defence which was marshalled by the superb Darren Ducie and ably assisted by Declan Kearns, Geoff Brogan and Enda Dolan was the root of this victory. The midfield won out a tough tussle with Dave Martin fielding superb ball and chipping in with a fine point, be-lying the fact that he carried a broken nose into this game from the last encounter. The forwards showed some great penetration, especially early in the second half with Paddy Christie calling the shots at full forward. Paddy wasn't a one man show though. Niall O'Donoghue, Kevin Brady and Laurence Finnerty were also magnificent. The management will definitely now be looking forward to the next round.

Jan. 28th, 2001-- Under 11 Footbal League :

Ballymun Kickhams 7-06 Fingallians 5-05

This was always going to be the crunch match of the division. Both Fingallians and Ballymun Kickhams when into this match unbeaten in 8 matches. Fingallians started the brightest scoring 2 points without reply Ballymun settled into the match and with some fine play and tireless running from the likes of Dean Rock and Eoin O'Lathian went into the break narrowly ahead. Again after the break Fingallians started the strongest. and the lead see-sawed with both teams taking some fine scores. With 10 minutes to go Fingallians took a 2 goal lead, but Ballymun weren't finished yet, with excellent play by Pat Laurance in defense and particular fine performance by Mickey Walsh, who was picked at full forward but put in some trojan work defending played his best match so far this season. A further 2 goals and 2 points saw Ballymun Kickhams run out winners 7 goals 7 points to 5 goals 5 points in a very exciting game. Scorers : Lee Mehan 1-0, Anthony Laurance 2-0, Robbie Warren 0-1, Eoin O'Laithan 0-1, Dean Rock 3-4, Mickey Walsh 1-0, Jamie Basnett 0-1.

June 24th, 1999-- Junior Football League:

Ballymun Kickhams 1-10 Na Fianna 0-04

Dermot McMahon's managerial career got off to a great start on Thursday last at Pairc Ciceam where the juniors recorded a well deserved victory over old rivals Na Fianna. The juniors, captained by Paul Ryan, looked hungry from the start, despite going 2 points down in the early minutes of the tie. Na Fianna's lead didn't last for long, as Shamie Walsh and Eoin Richardson began to excel. As Kickhams back line held firm, the Na Fianna lads became more and more frustrated and Ballymun got their just reward with a fisted goal early in the second half (actual scorer is up for debate!). Kickhams then went on to masterfully pick off score after score with Kevin Clancy, Brendan Hickey, and Shamie Walsh getting on the score sheet. All in all a fine team performance!

June 13th, 1999-- Intermediate Football C'ship 1st Round:

Ballymun Kickhams 3-09 Fingallians 4-06

The Intermediates took on Fingallians in Lusk. Fingallians started off brightly and after 15 minutes raced into a 3-1 to 1-2 lead. A penalty by Shane O Brien brought us back into the game and trailed by only 2 points at half-time. Ballymun then took over at midfield with great performances by David Wynne and Paul Bergin and three unanswered points by Kirk Sweeney put Ballymun into the lead for the first time. Things were looking very good for "The Mun" when after a great move, Shane O Brien scored a great goal to leave the score at 3-7 to 3-3. Fingallians then rallied again and scored another goal to leave them one point behind. Ballymun dug in deep and two points by Alan McKean and Shane O Brien put Kickhams into a two point lead with three minutes left .Fingallians pressed forward and in the dying moments scored two points to level the match. This was indeed a great match and we can all look forward to the replay next week.

June 11th, 1999-- Junior Football C'ship 1st Round:

Ballymun Kickhams 1-6 Clontarf 0-11

Unfortunately the Juniors lost a great game on Friday evening by two points. It was probably the best display from the juniors this year with every player pulling out all the stops to try and avoid defeat. Playing with 14 for most of the match after Barry Kavanagh from midfield was sent off, it was always going to be difficult. Then later on in the match Andy McManus got his marching orders. The Juniors would have been well on their way only for a couple of world class saves made by the Clontarf keeper. In particular the save in the dying minutes which denied Kevin Clancy a sure goal was something to see.

May 14th, 1999-- Senior Football C'ship 1st Round:

Ballymun Kickhams 2-20 Naomh Barrog 0-07

Clinical Ballymun brushed aside the Naomh Barrog challenge in the first round of the Dublin senior championship at St Margarets on Friday night. Considering there was only a point between the sides in the corresponding fixture last year, another close contest was expected. However the scoring power of Ballymun's two front men, Stephen Condon and Niall O'Donoghue, proved too much for Barrog. Condon finished the game the top scorer with 2-5, closly followed by O'Donoghue with 0-8. Barrog's cause wasn't helped with th loss of Dublin star Paul Croft due to suspension and former underage Dublin player Dave Moore. Five points separated the sides at half time, as Ballymun led 0-9 0-4. With three unanswered points at the beginning of the second half the game was effectively over as a contest. Ballymun moved into top gear with some powerful play from centre back PJ Lanigan and centre forward Rossa O'Callaghan, supplying the ammunition for Condon and O'Donoghue. The highlight of the night was a brace of goals by Condon. The first was a side footer to the top corner and the second was a soccer-style finish in which he sent the 'keeper the wrong way. Man of the Match: Stephen Condon closely followed by Rossa O'Callaghan, PJ Lanigan and Niall O'Donoghue

January 31st, 1999-- Senior Football League Result:

Naomh Mearnog 2-7 Ballymun Kickhams 2-7

Ballymun and Naomh Mearnog played out a highly entertaining game in yesterday's SFL match at Portmarnock Community School. Mearnog started the brighter of the two teams with two early goals which rocked Ballymun. The first came from a goalmouth scramble while the second was a piece of individual brilliance from Brian Irwin, who sliced through the Ballymun defence before leaving Davy Byrne standing. Although seemingly still asleep at this stage, Ballymun managed to grab three pointed frees from Dave Quinlivan before half-time to leave the score 2-5 0-3, in favour of Mearnog. However a different story unravelled in the second half when a highly determined Ballymun side decided to take the game to Mearnog. The brothers Quinlivan, David and Brendan especially, and Geoff Brogan began to dominate the midfield sector. This paved the way for Ballymun's first goal within five minutes of the resumption from Adrian Whelan. Whelan received the ball 25 yards from goal, accelerated past his markaer before firing low and hard into the bottom corner. At this stage Ballymun's restructured full forward line of Kevin Brady, Declan Sheehan and the aforememtioned Whelan began to play havoc with the Mearnog back line. Only minutes later a long free was punched into the net by the roving midfielder Brogan. This put Ballymun one point behind. Points from Dave Mick Shelley, the Quinlivan brothers and Declan Sheehan put Ballymun into the lead only for Mearnog to grab a last ditch equaliser. In the end a draw was probably a fair reflection on the game although Ballymun will rue a host of missed second half opportunities. Man of the match: Adrian Whelan, ably assisted by Kevin Brady, Declan Sheehan and Brendan Quinlivan.

January 24th, 1999-- Senior Football League Result:

St Brigids 1-08 Ballymun 0-05

A young and hungry St Brigids side overcame Ballymun in yesterday's dour SFL match at Russell Park. Ballymun started brightly with points from David Quinlivan and quickly went into a two point lead. Playing with a substantial wind and hill advantage in the first half, Ballymun needed a bigger score going in at half time. Unfortunately things were level at the break. A St Brigids penalty early in the second half from Keith Keane set them up for what was a deserved victory. Best for St Brigids were halfbacks, Keith Keane and Peadar Andrews while Leitrim player Jason Ward was excellent at midfield. Ballymun were best served by their two corner backs, Enda Dolan and Joe Nolan, who never stopped trying.

November 8th, 1998 -- Senior Football Challenge:

Ballymun Kickhams 2-10 Raheny 1-08

Despite a somewhat lacklustre performance Ballymun still emerged comfortable winners in a senior football challenge game played in St Annes park on Sunday. Both sides, at times, strung together some nice passing movements despite the soft underfoot conditions. However it was the two goals from Ballymun that proved decisive in the end. A fine solo effort from Declan Sheehan resulted in his firing into the top corner of the Raheny net in spectacular fashion. Minutes later Michael Shelly finished low under the Raheny keeper after a nice passing movement between Patrick Christie and Ian Robertson.

Aug. 19th, 1998 -- Senior Football A.I.B Final:

Ballyboden St Endas 1-06 Ballymun Kickhams 2-12

A determined Ballymun side overcame a slightly understrength Ballyboden St Endas in the final of The A.I.B. Cup Final last night in Parnell Park. Playing with the wind in the first half Ballymun started nervously. Despite having most of the play they recorded 4 wides in the first 5 minutes before points from Ian Robertson and Mick Shelley settled them. Ballymun then raced into a formidable lead with goals from Larry Finnerty, an excellent strike from 20 yards, and Mick Shelley. At half time the score was 2-8 to 0-4. Ballyboden threatened early in the second half but were thwarted by the heroic efforts of the Ballymun defence and a penalty save by David Byrne. Despite conceding a second half goal Ballymun ran out winners by 9 points. Man of the match: Geoff Brogan who gave an exhibition at midfield, closely followed by David Quinlivan, who scored 5 points in the game.

May 17, 1998 -- Senior Football League Result:

Na Fianna 1-13 Ballymun Kickhams 3-8

After about 15-20 minutes Kickhams looked in trouble. It was 0-8 to 0-1, and Na Fianna were all over us. Mick Shelly kicked our first point from a free and this was followed by one from play from Stephen Condon. Within 5 minutes of this we got a penalty for a foul on Stephen Condon. Paddy Christie smashed it home. Na Fianna got another point but this was followed by a goal from Larry Finnerty. This move involved David McCarthy, Kevin Brady, and Mick Shelly before eventually being transferred to Larry who kicked it over the keeper. We ended the half with a point to level it. An amazing recovery.

We got on top in the second half with Geoff Brogan and David Quinlivan dominating at midfield. David McCarthy helped us into a three point lead with an opportunist goal after dispossessing the keeper and firing into an empty net before Dessie Farrell scored a dubious goal. He must have taken in all about ten steps! Na Fianna followed this up with a point. At this stage Phil O'Dea was introduced for us and made a significant difference. Two converted frees quickly followed from Mick Shelly. A welcome return was made by Anto McCaul to competitive action. He was on the pitch only 1 minute when he won a usual Anto McCaul free! Unfortunately it wasn't converted. Despite this miss, Ballymun eventually ran out one point winners. The team lined out as follows:

David Byrne, Enda Dolan, Mick Carroll, Joe Nolan, Darren Ducie, Paddy Christie (1-0), Mick Shelly (0-4), David Quinlivan, Geoff Brogan, Kevin Brady, Declan Sheehan, David McCarthy (1-0), Stephen Condon (0-4), Derrick Smith, Larry Finnerty (1-0).

Subs: Phil O'Dea for Declan Sheehan, Anto McCaul for David McCarthy
